I don't have a problem with the "magic', etc. What I have a problem with is the apparent "values clarification" illustrated. Bottom line, children should not be shown that doing something bad for a greater good is ok. It's not. There are simply better books/movies out there with a clearer message of right and wrong.

I don't have a problem with Harry Potter. To me it is based on the common plot of good verses evil. Does Harry sometimes do things he shouldn't in order to overcome the evil? Yes, but have you ever chosen this path? I know I have and I want my children to know that sometimes even when we are trying to follow the right or good path we can make poor choices along the way. And that is okay, we are human and God still loves us. Harry always looks back at what he did and either questions his choice or suffers the consequences of his actions. Here again a wonderful life lesson. And as far as the magic, I found this article on by Page Zyromski and I am going to quote it because it sums up how feel.

"Are these books evil because they use wizardry as a background? Let me answer a question with a question. After you finish a Harry Potter book are you tempted to dig into the occult so you can be like God, or do you admire Harry's truth, courage and loyalty to his friends? Do you want to change a teacup into a mouse or do you want to change your habits so you won't be like Harry's rich and bratty enemy, Draco Malfoy?"

Just like any book or television show our children read or watch, the important thing is to discuss their feelings about the subject matter with them, guide them and instill in them good morals and a solid understanding of their faith. If we do this I have the utmost confidence that they will be able to walk out into this world and face both evil and good and be able to follow in Jesus's footsteps.
